Mr. Beams battery powered LED light

This bright motion sensor LED light makes it safer to find your way in the dark.

The bright Mr. Beams LED light is a battery operated motion sensor with 140 lumens LED. Since no wiring is needed you will find that the weather resistant LED light is easy to install just about anywhere outside your house. The light is ideal for a carport or a back porch where you need a spotlight. The motion sensor light is worth every penny in situations where you have your hands full and can’t flick a switch on.

Where would you put it?

A lot of people install motion sensor lights in car ports to scare any potential thieves away. It is a worthwhile investment to make you feel safer in your home. Most people also appreciate having a light where they park their car when they carry their groceries into their home. Many people get a second light for their back porch as it is so handy with a light that automatically comes on when you carry your garbage out at night or let your pet in or out.

These lights are also very popular to use inside the home, such as in dark stairwells and in closets. The light switches off 30 seconds after the sensor detects the last movement. It is a great alternative to spend money on having an electrician wire in addition lighting. The spotlight is very bright and will illuminate any dark area and makes it safer for you to get around.

Placement of the light

You can mount the LED light on a horizontal or vertical surface – as long you can drill a screw into it. Two wood screws come with the light and it really only takes a few minutes to get the light installed. One thing to be mindful of if you do mount it on a ceiling is that the factory mount will not let you point the light straight down. The best way to get around that is to place an angled wooden wedge in between the mount and the ceiling.

Excellent Range

The motion sensor range all depends on which angle you set the light at. For the most part the light will go on when you are within 20 – 30 ft. and covers an area of about 400 square ft.

How long does the light stay on?

Once activated the light stays on for 30 seconds and then switches off it it does not sense more movement. The light has a built in photocell. This means that the LED light only comes on at night, so if you walk by it during the day it will not come on. This greatly extends the life of the batteries. The light does not have an on/off switch and only when it detects movement and the photocell senses that it is dark. Larger animals like your cat or dog will activate the light. This way you know that your pet is waiting for you to let it in at the back door.

Batteries

The LED light takes 3 D cell Alkaline batteries. The light does not come with batteries, so make sure to buy batteries when you buy the light. The batteries can last for over a year without you having to replace them but of course that depends on how often the light is on. The manufacturer states that you can get over 1,800 activations with one set of batteries. When it comes time to change the batteries all you have to do is twist the front off. You do not have to detach the light from the wall at all to change the batteries.

LED bulb

The colour of the LED bulb is neutral white and it provides 140 lumens. The bulb voltage is 4.5 volts. You can expect to get 50,000 hours out of the LED bulb, so you do not have to ever worry about changing that.

Conclusion

The MB360 wireless lights from Mr. Beams are great outdoor LED spotlights. They are easy to install because they do not need any wiring – which means you do not need an electrician. They are a great addition to any home for security purposes and makes it safer for you to find your way in the darkness.

Tilley Endurables T4MO Eco-Airflo Hat Review

Tilley Endurables T4MO Hat

This brimmed hat from Tilley gives excellent sun protection.

I gave my husband the Tilley Endurables T4MO Eco-Airflo Hat as a gift and he loves it. My husband has had this hat for several years now and wouldn’t dream of leaving it behind when we go on vacation. It packs easily and does not take up much space in a suitcase.

Organic materials

The hat is made of 98% certified organic cotton, which makes it a much eco friendlier option. I don’t know if it is just in my head but I think this material breathes better than the previous Tilley hats we have had. The quality is top notch. The stitching is hand sown and will not come undone. I have washed my husband’s Tilley hat many times and it does not lose its shape or colour.

Perfect sun protection

The Tilley Endurables have a nice wide brim that protects your face, neck and ears from the sun. It protects you so much better than a baseball hat that really only covers your face. The underside of the Tilley is in a darker olive colour to help prevent sun reflection, which really comes in handy when you are out on the water. On a sunny day, the glare from the water can be very bright and the dark brim on the underside of the hat tones this glare significantly down.

Best sailing hat ever

We enjoy sailing when we go on vacation and the Tilley hat is the perfect sailing hat. Once my husband lost his Tilley hat overboard on a windy day. This is how we found out that the hat floats! Because it floated we were able to turn the boat around and pick the hat up with a boat hook – we thought for sure that we had lost it! Now my husband always uses the ties on the hat, so it does not fly off his head again on windy days.

Ventilation to cool you down

There is a small strip of polyester mesh above the hairline that allows ventilation on hot days. The strip is about 3/4-inch wide. The mesh material also lets the heat from your head to escape and makes a full day in the sun a lot more tolerable. The top of the hat is in a sturdy but light cotton that protects you from the sun’s harmful rays. The material blocks 98 percent of UVA/UVB radiation and has an ultraviolet factor (UPF) of 50+, which is the highest rating.

Hidden pocket inside

Inside the hat you will find a little pocket that we usually use to put a bit of cash in when we are travelling. This comes in handy when we go for a stroll on the beach and want to stop at a restaurant for some food or a drink.

Tilley T4MO versus LTM6

I also considering buying the Tilley LTM6 Airflo for my husband. The Tilley T4MO and the LTM6 are very similar. They are about the same price, the same size, both have UPF 50+, a little mesh in the top of the hat and a secret inner pocket to hide cash or a room key. The reason why I decided to go with the T4MO was simply because it was made of certified organic cotton as opposed to nylon. My husband finds cotton more breathable than nylon, so I always try to opt for that material for him.

Conclusion

The Tilley T4MO is the best hat to bring on a cruise, sailing vacation or a beach vacation. It is great for sun protection and is pretty much indestructible, so you do not have to worry about how neat you pack it in your suitcase.

Camelbak Eddy Water Bottle Review

by Anne 0 Comments
Camelbak Eddy Bottle

The Camelbak Eddy Bottle comes in many different colours.

I can’t remember the last time that I have bought a bottle of water. We live in an area with great tap water, so it never crosses my mind to pick up a bottle of water from the grocer’s cooler. So much plastic is wasted on these single-use water bottles. I always just grab my Camelbak Eddy water bottle before I head out the door and I am set for the day. I have the 24 oz (0.75L) bottle and it fits perfectly in my backpack and in the cup holder in my car.

Easy to use

The lid has a leak-free flip-top bite valve that has a straw attached below the lid. I like to use the straw when I am driving and can’t tilt my head back… well, I could, it just wouldn’t be that safe. When you drink through the mouthpiece you just have to bite gently on the tube to allow the water to come through. This took me a second to figure out but now I really love it as it means that there are no leaks if the bottle gets knocked over.

I like that I do not have to unscrew a lid to get a sip of water. If you do not care for the straw, it can easily be removed. Kids tend to bite through the bite valve as if it were a chew toy, but you can buy them separately if you need a new one.

The lid has a little loop in it which makes it easy to carry with you. I have also snapped a carabiner on mine. This way I attach it to the front of my backpack when I go on a hike and have easy access to water whenever I need it.

BPA-free

All of Camelbak’s bottles are 100% BPA-free. You never have to be concerned that any toxins slip into the water.

Durable material

I have dropped the Eddy Camelbak bottle on the floor a few times both with and without water in and I was happy and relieved to see that nothing happened to it. It is completely leak-free and made in a very durable material.

Dishwasher safe

I put the bottle, lid, mouthpiece and straw in the top rack of my dishwasher every couple of days. I do have three of these water bottles in total, so that I can rotate them in use.

Condensation issues

Condensation can be a bit of an issue in the summer months, especially when I have left the bottle in the fridge overnight. Camelbak does offer a sleeve for the bottle and there is an insulated version of the water bottle, so I may look into that in the future. It is not something I have had a real issue with, just keep it in mind if you plan to use yours at a desk at work with a lot of papers you do not want to have watermarks on.

Facts about disposable plastic water bottles:

  • 80% of plastic water bottles do not get recycled
  • 38 million plastic bottles end up in the landfill every year in the USA from bottled water (this does not include soda)
  • It takes up to 1,000 years for a plastic bottle to decompose in a landfill
  • Plastic water bottle cost up to 10,000 times more than regular tap water

Great for the environment

Using a reusable water bottle is so much better for the environment than grabbing a new bottle of water every day. We have three Eddy Camelbak bottles, so there are no excuses for not using a reusable water bottle. I will usually rotate them and have one bottle chilling in the fridge, one in the dishwasher and one usually gets forgotten in the car. By having three of them, chances that the bottle is “dirty” are very slim.
